Triathlon Coaching and Training

Johnny Surprise has coached for over 10 years and has completed 12 Ironman’s and has over 10 Half Ironman’s under his belt. He is very passionate and loyal to the sport of triathlon and wants to continue to grow the sport and to give back to triathlon that has given him so much over the years of racing. Johnny has been very fortunate to be able to train with some of greatest in the sport when he lived in San Diego, CA. Learning and listening to world champions and understanding how training needs to be focused around the athlete’s life first and then build the plan is the foundation of his coaching. Johnny is a motivator like no other, he listens to his athletes, and will always find a way to lift you up. If you are a first year triathlete or a seasoned veteran and you are looking for a coach or have any questions about the sport, please reach out to Johnny.

Just before I met Johnny, I was about to give up on one of my greatest passions of triathlon and life long dreams of qualifying for Kona. I was lacking motivation and most of all not seeing the progress I needed to make my dreams become reality. With a strategic training and coaching plan, Johnny pushed me to be my very best which helped me win my age group and achieve my dream of a KQ race!

Johnny’s coaching and guidance helped take me from novice triathlete to a competitive Ironman age grouper in a very short time. I really appreciated his balanced training plans and his willingness to take his own time to make sure I was putting in the work needed to be successful. He did this while keeping things fun with the recognition that the journey is sometimes more important than the destination.

Johnny coached for a couple months leading up to my first 140.6 in 2013. He gave me the structure I needed, but at the same time, kept it fun, interesting and challenging. I’ll forever have happy memories of Ohio hill repeats on my bike (even though at the time I was probably cursing him!). Johnny’s experience and knowledge run deep, and I’m so grateful that he shared it – and his love of the sport – with me!

Johnny brings humor, expertise, experience, and a wealth of knowledge to multi sport training. I worked with Johnny to complete my dream of competing my first Ironman, and the fitness gains I saw with his cycling program, helped me achieve a top 15% finish at Ironman Florida. If you’re goal is to get faster and stronger, then look no further!
